Question:

What are signs of nursing home abuse that you should be aware of?

Answer:

Signs of Nursing Home AbuseWe’re often asked by potential clients what are some of the signs of nursing home negligence or nursing home abuse. Nursing home cases in general are some of the most heartbreaking cases to see and some of the cases that we are the most passionate about at the Gunnels Injury Law . This is because they involve taking advantage of some of the most dependent and weakest people in our society. Nursing home cases are similar to cases involving children, in that they are cases in which the most dependent members in our society are at risk. We want to do everything we can to help protect those members.

If you have a relative or a loved one who is in a nursing home, some of the things to look for are bedsores, which happen when the person is not being moved or turned enough. If a person is bedridden and they are in the same position too often, they will generally develop sores on parts of their bodies that they are not being moved off of. Another involves hygiene. If you look at the person who is in the nursing home and don’t feel like they are getting appropriate hygiene, that can often be a sign that they are not being well taken care of and the nursing home is not undertaking its obligations appropriately.

Another matter is if you are seeing cuts, scrapes, bruises or swelling on the the person who is in the nursing home or if you’re getting information regarding regular falls. Falls are particularly dangerous for people of advanced age and frailty. These can be complicated issues because people who are in nursing homes often do fall without any negligence on the part of the nursing home. If you feel this is an issue, it’s certainly worth looking into and making sure that everything is being done to protect your loved one.

If you feel like you have someone you care about who could be a victim of nursing home negligence or nursing home abuse, please give us a call so we can help you look into it and make sure that your loved one is taken care of and make sure that, if you have a potential claim, everything is done to preserve that claim so it can be presented in the most efficient and effective manner as the matter goes forward.
